SUMMER CAMPS
Home » Summer at AON
Brand new this year, the Aquarium most popular day camps have grown into week-long summer camp experiences designed to provide an immersive look into two exciting careers: marine biologist and zoo/aquarium veterinarian.
Aquarium camps feature opportunities to view behind-the-scenes areas, talk to zoological or veterinary staff, experience up-close animal interactions, and participate in hands-on activities.
Dates: July 14-18 and August 11-15 Time: 9am-4pm daily Cost: $300, members save 10%
When: July 14-18 Ages 10-14
Do you love the ocean? Then a career as a marine biologist may be for you! To get a better understanding of this field, come spend the week at the Aquarium learning about the properties of water, ocean ecosystems and the variety of life found among them.
Gather and test water samples from both Aquarium exhibits and the ecosystems that surround the Aquarium. Hunt for animal life both inside the Aquarium and beyond. Explore the diversity of ocean life by interacting with preserved specimens and unique pieces from the Aquarium’s artifact collection. Just like trained marine biologists, we will strive to understand the habitat that covers most of our planet while also learning how to preserve it.
August 11-15 Ages 8-12
Just like your pets at home, the animals at the Aquarium regularly see a veterinarian for checkups. During this camp, participants will take a deep dive into the facts about their favorite animals and get a hands-on look at what it takes to care for some of our most popular species. Each day will feature a different species, and all the favorites are included: seals and sea lions, penguins, fish, turtles, and sharks!
We will cover the special needs of rescued animals, demonstrate how staff administer medication and provide care in the water, and showcase the unique opportunities of raising baby animals through animal observations, exploratory activities, and role play.
