Join our mission to inspire people to make a difference for aquatic life. Aquarium volunteers play an integral role in our daily operations and are represented in nearly every department at the Aquarium. Depending on your interests, you could help prepare diets, provide stimulating enrichment for our animals, interact with guests, interpret the exhibits and animals in them, and so much more. 

Please note that volunteers are not guaranteed animal interaction or contact.  

  • Ongoing professional training 
  • First-hand look at behind-the-scenes areas and operations 
  • Seasonal volunteer appreciation events 
  • The satisfaction of knowing you are helping drive the Aquarium’s top-notch standard of animal care, educational experiences, and conservation efforts

  • At least 14 years old 
  • Participation in an orientation session (required before volunteering; offered quarterly) 
  • Availability during Aquarium operating hours 
  • Time commitment (pick one): 
    • Minimum of 4 hours/week for a minimum of 6 months 
    • Minimum of 8 hours/week for a minimum of 3 months 
  • Reliability 
  • Positive attitude 
  • Certain volunteer roles may require additional physical and/or experience requirements

  • Provide personal interpretation and group presentations at the Aquarium of Niagara
  • Provide guests with general information regarding our facility and programming
  • Assist Aquarium educators with public presentations
  • Assist Aquarium educators in preparation of materials for classes and events

  • Greet guests as they enter the exhibit space and provide instruction on proper touch pool protocols
  • Move guests into exhibit space and optimize opportunities for animal interaction
  • Provide animal information and educational content
  • Maintain oversight of the species in the touch pool by assessing their well-being and communicating any concerns to our educators or aquarists
  • Provide guests with general information regarding our facility and programming

  • Help maintain cleanliness of public areas
  • Assist facilities technicians in performing special projects
  • Assist with life support systems (depending on level of skill/experience)
  • Provide guests with general information regarding our facility and programming

  • Help with event setup and breakdown
  • Assist with event-related programs and activities
  • Provide guests with general information regarding our facility and programming
